What's New in the Champlain Mill? Winter, 2008

Community Building in the Champlain Mill

A series of wonderful events took place in the Champlain Mill this Fall. More are planned for the New Year. Stay tuned!!

  • November brought to the Mill a Silent Auction to benefit the Vermont Youth Orchestra. The event was called Musical Chairs, and Artists donated a "music inspired" chair design to benefit the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association. The preferred finished artwork was a three dimensional piece which preserved the functionality and/or decorative properties of a chair. As the basis of their chair design, the artists either fabricated an original chair design or selected one of the donated chairs available through the VYOA to paint, decorate or re-design. The event raised over $4,000 for the VYOA.
  • December saw two wonderful events, with the first ever partnership between Winooski Falls and the City of Winooski on a Winter Market and a Holiday Art Show. The Market took place on three consecutive Saturdays, and featured local vendors who sold local and international food, crafts, clothing, and other unique Vermont products. Several of the vendors have discussed extending the market after the holidays to be a winter market/café. The Holiday Art Show featured the work of four local artists who displayed their work on a Saturday in December. Both the Winter Market and the Holiday Art Show confirmed the Champlain Mill's appeal as an ideal venue for community events and as a center for community activity and energy.
